BASF Construction Chemicals, together with Qatari building materials supplier Construction Materials Company, has opened a new construction materials facility in the country.
The purpose-built facility in the new Salwa Industrial Area covers nearly 9500 sq m and is home to BASF Construction Chemicals’ sales and technical services team supporting its many customers in Qatar.
The extensive storage area, with over 1,400 pallet spaces and a purpose-built chilled store, enables BASF to offer a fast turnaround logistics service throughout the country.
“Our qualified technical services staff now operate from ample training and sample-making rooms which, together with a modern concrete testing facility, offers our contractors, applicators and readymix customers unrivalled levels of specialised support,” said Tony Moorat, regional manager construction systems.
Meanwhile, BASF Construction Chemicals has opened its first concrete admixture blending plant in the country with a capacity of more than 65,000 tonnes a year. “Our aim is to provide our many site batch, precast and readymix concrete customers with an industry leading level of service and technical support. Our new admixture blending plant and associated concrete testing laboratories will enhance the already high standards of service that has been associated with our company in the state of Qatar for 30 years,” says John Sarkis, BASF Construction Chemicals UAE general manager.
BASF’s Construction Chemicals division is a leading supplier of chemical systems and formulations for the construction industry. Its admixture systems business unit specifically helps customers in the readymix, precast, manufactured concrete and underground construction industries. The construction systems unit offers a wide range of products for sports and industrial flooring, external renders and wall insulation, expansion joints, wood preservatives as well as specialist repair mortars, tile adhesives and waterproofing membranes.
The division operates production sites and sales centres in more than 50 countries and achieved sales of €2.2 billion ($3.16 billion) with approximately 7,700 employees in 2008.
