The Haj Terminal in Jeddah.

A NEW power and air-conditioning load centre has been unveiled for the Haj terminal at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Built by Vision Electro Mechanical Company, a subsidiary of Construction Products Holding Company (CPC), the station is located in the eastern Haj terminal at the airport.
“The refrigeration station and all its supporting facilities were built over an area of 100,000 sq m,” says Vision CEO Hassan Chahine. “The station comprises the refrigeration units, which consists of six centrifugal units of a total capacity of 15,000 TBTU/h, as well as refrigeration towers and all related connections and pumps.”
Completed in just eight months, the station provides electric power and air-conditioning units for the terminals. CPC business development director Dr Faysal Alaquil said: “Vision implemented all works of the station as a subcontractor for Saudi Binladin Group, the main contractor for the airport project, in a record time, proving its capability to implement major works at the highest level of efficiency in accordance with international standards. This refrigeration station provides electric power and refrigeration units inside the five eastern Haj terminals and all related buildings, ensuring comfort and convenience for the pilgrims as well as facilitates their arrival and departure.”
The station contains a large number of electrical transformers that feed all the facilities of the station.
It produces nearly 41,000 kVA, has 30,000 m of medium-pressure cables and 20,000 m of low-pressure cables, plus five back-up generators for emergency cases, with a total capacity of 12,500 kVA. It also has 176 main and sub-panels connected to a control panel to coordinate their work, as well as two water reservoirs with a total capacity of 12,540 cu m.
“We designed and set up the whole cooling system in a way that will allow future expansion of the station to serve the western Haj terminals,” Chahine said.
