Abu Dhabi: The UAE Minister of Public Works and Housing Rakad bin Salem bin Rakad has signed contracts worth of total cost of Dh28.5 million ($7.76 million). These include a deal worth Dh3.8 million for the construction of a sports medicine centre in Dubai, as well as a primary school, kindergartens and maintenance of mosques.

Ankara: Turkish and US companies have signed accords for four power plants worth $818.5 million as part of planned energy business worth $10 billion, said Cumhur Ersumer, Turkish Energy Minister.

Turkey aims to build a power capacity of 13,000 MW with Americans.

Abu Dhabi: A special body to speed up the finalisation of tenders will be set up at the UAE Ministry of Water and Electricity. The body will be authorised to take instant decision on several issues, said Humaid bin Nasir Al Owais, UAE Minister of Electricity and Water.

Dubai: Tenders for the estimated Dh35 million ($9.5 million) new Rover showroom on Shaikh Zayed Road in Dubai, UAE, will be floated during the first quarter of 2000. The design and related details of the facility are currently being worked out, according to Saeed Al Tayer, managing director of Al Tayer Motors, the local Rover dealer.

Dubai: Contracts for two drainage projects in Dubai, UAE that will cost a total of Dh82 million ($22.33 million) have been approved. The projects have been awarded to two separate specialised firms. They include the last phase of expansion of the drainage network in Deira. The second project is a stormwater drainage scheme for Zabeel area.

Abu Dhabi: The board of the Zayed Housing Programme has approved a budget of Dh929.7 million ($253.18 million), of which Dh640 million has been absorbed for the 1999 building programme.

Ras Al Khaimah: Al Manar Mall has joined hands with National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed) to set up a utility company called Tabreed District Cooling Company in Ras Al Khaimah. The first customer will be Al Manar Mall which is due for completion in September.
