Carillion of the UK has won a £13.7 million ($22.72 million) contract to build the quay wall at the Westside Marina in Dubai. With its local partner Al Futtaim, Carillion will build 7 km of mass concrete blockwall to form the central marina and waterway to the development. The work will include excavation of 200,000 cu m of material and the placement of 9,000 precast concrete blocks varying in weight from 30 to 60 tonnes. This will be followed with 600,000 tonnes of backfill.

When completed, Westside Marina, being developed by Emaar Properties, will be a city covering 53 million sq ft, housing a community of more than 100,000 residents. It will have a commercial district, parks, cafes and restaurants, hotels and shops and a range of recreational facilities.

Meanwhile, Carillion is currently undertaking another $8 million earthmoving contract for Emaar Properties.
