Sharjah: The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) will move to its new Dh20 million ($5.44 million) premises at Al Khalidiya next month. The final touches are being put to the four-storey building which occupies a 30,000 sq m site.

Abu Dhabi: The Dh700 million ($190.7 million) UAE electricity grid linking all the Northern Emirates is to be completed next summer.

Sharjah: The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) will start work on the Dh250 million ($68 million) Phase Two of the Sharjah gas distribution project by early this year. The first phase of the gas distribution network for the emirate has just been completed at a cost of Dh250 million.

  • Power production in Sharjah is to be increased from 1,300 MW to 1,500 MW in the next two years and water production was expected to be raised to 55 million gallons from 50 million per day with the launch of the Al Saja Water desalination plant at the end of last year, according to Ali Abdullah Al Noman, director-general of Sewa.

    Ajman: The first CineStar Cinemas with six screens at Ajman City Centre in the UAE, covering an areas of 38,000 sq ft, has been opened to the public.

    Abu Dhabi: A cricket stadium of international standards is planned to be built in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi. Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, who is also chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board and Abu Dhabi Cricket Club, said a budget allocation has already been approved and tenders for the project will be floated soon.

    Dubai: Emirates-owned Al Maha Desert Resort in Dubai, UAE, is completing an extensive restoration programme to green the desert and return it to its natural glory. The restoration programme has seen the planting of 6,000 indigenous grasses, shrubs and trees over approximately 20 per cent of the nature reserve land area.

    Dubai: A total of Dh636 million ($173.20 million) was spent on road projects during 1998 in Dubai, UAE. Between 1994 and 1998 a total of Dh2.7 billion was spent on road projects, said Qassim Sultan, director-general of Dubai Municipality.
