Siemens, GAC to relocate terminal

Siemens – a global provider of leading-edge solutions in information and communications, automation control, power, transportation, medical and lighting – has selected GAC Qatar as its logistics partner in moving an entire temporary airport terminal from Europe to Qatar.

The relocation is being carried out in preparation of the Asian Games to be held in Doha this December.
The Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC) together with Qatar’s civil aviation authorities are currently making arrangements for a temporary airport terminal to be erected adjacent to the existing operating international passenger terminal, as part of the overall plan to enhance immigration, customs and quarantine clearance at Qatar’s Doha International Airport.
Qatar is sparing no effort to ensure that athletes, officials, spectators, and valued visitors to Qatar are cleared speedily through its airport while the present international airport terminal will continue to serve passengers arriving on all international flights.
The largest freight load handled so far is the outer tent structure of the temporary airport terminal that is in excess of 315 cu m. The consignment loaded in remaining containers arriving into Doha includes everything to run an airport terminal efficiently such as office mountings, immigration and customs counters, quarantine bays and counters, baggage conveyor belts, chairs, seating arrangements, surveillance and computer equipment.
The temporary airport terminal will function prior to the Games and will be removed and re-exported after the event.
