Zamil plans $20m facility in India

Khalid Al Zamil ... expansion plans.

Saudi Arabia’s Zamil Steel Industries (ZSI), a sector business of Zamil Industrial Investment Company (ZIIC), has announced plans to establish a $20 million factory in Maharashtra, India, that will design and produce pre-engineered steel buildings (PEBs).

The 90,000 sq m facility – scheduled for completion by the end of this year – will have an annual production capacity of 3 million sq m of PEBs.
“This initial investment of $20 million – which we have made through Zamil Steel India – is part of our investment strategy for the dynamic and growing Indian marketplace,” said ZIIC managing director Khalid Al Zamil.
“ZSI is a global leader in manufacturing PEBs and we expect our products will partly service local needs and requirements. In the coming years we anticipate raising further our total investment to $30 million to establish an additional manufacturing facility in the country.”
Elaborating on the potential of PEB in a market such as India a company spokesman said: “They find enormous use in warehouses, factories, aircraft hangars, commercial centres, offices, recreation centres and showrooms. The most notable advantages of PEB are the low cost initial investment, the fast construction time, the low maintenance cost, the large clear span interiors, and the ease for future expansions.
Al Zamil added: “Zamil Steel Industries has also recently expanded its facilities in Saudi Arabia as well as in Egypt and Vietnam. Our manufacturing process utilises the most innovative proprietary technologies and in-house developed engineering systems and continual improvement and investment have ensured its leadership in this industry. We have supplied in excess of 40,000 PEBs to more than 80 international markets.”
Founded in 1977, Zamil Steel (ZS) is a global leader in the manufacture of PEBs and the Middle East’s premier supplier of structural steel products and process equipment, transmission and telecommunications towers. ZS operates a joint venture between ZIIC and Steel Plus, a subsidiary of Canam Manac Group, Canada, to design and fabricate open web steel joists and floor decks.
ZS manufactures a total 250,000 MT of fabricated steel per annum of low rise and high rise steel buildings and structures for diverse industrial, commercial, agriculture, aviation, entertainment and military applications and support of infrastructure and development projects.
