Alba power station makes headway

The GT 52 turbine being delivered.

Alba’s new 660 MW Power Station 4 (PS4) recently celebrated another major milestone with the delivery of the first gas turbine – GT 52 – and its associated electric generator on the site.

The delivery of the gas turbine signifies that all power station project activities have been progressing according to schedule and the power station will be ready to produce the first power this October, in  preparation for the commissioning of Pot-line 5 in February 2005.
At 343 tonnes, the gas turbine is the heaviest item of equipment to be delivered to the site and it is followed by the electric generator which at 230 tonnes, is the next heaviest.
“We are very pleased at the excellent progress being made by the power station contractors with regards to the site installation works” stated Line 5’s Power project expansion manager, Mahmood Asghar.
“The engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Power Station 4 was awarded to Alstom on a turnkey basis in April 2003, and we are happy to see that the manufacturing and delivery of the first gas turbine was accomplished within 12 months, as demanded by the project time schedule.”
