Contracts worth more than BD42 million ($111.4 million) have been awarded by Bahrain's Works and Housing Ministry to local contractors during the first four months of the year.

They included 47 projects in various parts of the country including infrastructure works, construction and housing services.
Works and Housing Minister Fahmi Al Jowder said that 36 local companies had been awarded the contracts. Road works, which formed a bulk of the contracts, amounted to BD22 million and was executed by 10 contractors.
This apart there were 12 housing projects worth BD 5 million, carried out by nine companies; and seven other construction projects worth BD 4 million executed by seven companies. The list also included three maintenance projects worth over BD 197,000, he said.
Special projects include the new Constitutional Court building, a stonewall for the Al Najma Sports Club, and a new security system for the Gudaibiya Palace, which are being carried out at a combined cost of over BD 1 million.
