Khaled Nahhas has been named as the winner of the inaugural Cityscape Young Architect Award. The award, which honours property designers who have made a positive contribution to the lives of people in Islamic communities, has been initiated by the Institute for International Research (IIR). The award was presented during a ceremony at the Montgomerie Golf Club in Dubai, UAE.
Nahhas' practice, the Amman-based Symbios Architecture specialises in commercial hi-tech buildings, restaurants and cafes and is currently involved in the prestigious Downtown Amman scheme.
Nahhas won the award for his Blue Fig cafe project which opened in 2000 in Amman's Abdoun neighbourhood. The casual cultural theme cafe and bar, targets both young and old.
The award is presented annually during Cityscape - the exhibition for commercial architecture, property design and development - held in association with the International Property Investment and Management Conference (IPIC).
