AL Nafea (Schomburg) has supplied and installed the Vulkem traffic deck coating system in the car-park area of the Al Shoala Office Complex.

"Vulkem traffic deck coating is specially designed as a lightweight trafficable coating system," says a company spokesman. "The system, although mainly used in car-parks, is also used for the floors of mechanical rooms, terraces, walkways, stadium bleachers and other areas requiring a durable coating. Vulkem traffic deck assists in protecting the concrete from the damaging effect caused by carbon dioxide, chlorides, humidity and other materials resulting in the corrosion and deterioration of the concrete.

"Its elastic properties enable the complete assembly to give protection and work with the concrete slab and bridge cracks. The system is ultraviolet (UV)-resistant and has a UL Class A fire-rating."

Mameco (Tremco) manufactures Vulkem and Al Nafea (Schomburg) is the agent for the product in the UAE. Mameco has been producing the product since 1974.

The system was first installed in the UAE in 1989. Mameco also manufactures a wide range of waterproofing materials and sealants. Some of the projects where the Vulkem system has been used are Zadco-Gasco and Adco head office in Abu Dhabi, the Marriott multi-storey car-park and car-parks in Baniyas, National Bank of Dubai and Rotana Suites.
