ETA Melco Elevator Company is a joint venture company between Emirates Trading Agency, Dubai and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan.
The company has its head office in Dubai and branch/associated offices in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Maldives, India and CIS countries. ETA Melco represents Mitsubishi vertical transportation equipment in all these territories, offering design, marketing, supply, installation and maintenance services.
It employs well-qualified and experienced engineers and technicians, trained in Japan by Mitsubishi Electric and also in the UAE, and has over 1,300 technicians and about 300 engineers and other supporting staff on its rolls. It also has two Japanese engineers from Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, stationed in Dubai, to support the technical, quality control and training requirements of the company.
ETA Melco has a full-fledged design office at its headquarters. The company assists its clients in the early stages of designing the project by providing design data, traffic analysis etc, to make the elevator system more effective in its projects.
"This advice is provided without any charge and with no strings attached on the actual purchase of the equipment, which is only won through competition with other bidders," a spokesman for ETA Melco says.
Once the order for the elevators is placed with ETA Melco, the detailed installation drawings etc, are designed and transmitted to Japan for manufacturing. Then follows the actual installation, testing and commissioning and one-year guarantee maintenance. ETA Melco enjoys a "preferred supplier status" in all its operating areas. This status, he says, has been achieved by it due to the following reasons:
"Many clients who had, on account of lower prices, purchased the products of other elevator manufacturers have suffered over a period of time due to the bad quality of purchased equipment or the services rendered. They have come to ETA Melco with the contract for replacing those elevators," says the spokesman.
ETA Melco says it offers a comprehensive maintenance scheme by which it undertakes to maintain the equipment, inclusive of replacement of all spare parts and attend to call-back services, 24 hours a day throughout the year.
It has over 6,200 elevators under the comprehensive maintenance scheme. The company also stocks spare parts worth $3.5 million to cater to the demands of the elevators under its maintenance, the spokesman adds.
"Most of ETA Melco's clients hold comprehensive contracts with the company. A few clients who had opted for the maintenance of outside agencies offering lower prices have realised that ETA Melco maintenance gives them 'value for their money' and that ETA Melco's output is superior to that of those agencies and hence have returned to ETA Melco's comprehensive maintenance scheme," he emphasises.
Some of ETA Melco's major recent projects include Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Emirates Tower, Al Ghurair Retail City. Dubai International Airport, Abu Dhabi Trade Centre, Hyatt Regency Hotel projects in Delhi and Bombay (India) and Cankaya Hotel in Turkey.
ETA Melco claims to be the largest elevator company in the Gulf and is popularly known as "The elevator people of the Gulf." During the past 24 years of its existence, ETA Melco has sold more than 10,400 units, out of which nearly 9,100 have been installed by the company.
