During 2000, UK-based Conren International in conjunction with its exclusive distributor and applicator company in Dubai, Desert Roofing & Flooring Company (DRFCO) successfully completed many prestigious projects in the UAE using Rooftex, the liquid-applied modified polyurethane waterproofing membrane.

Rooftex has been used in the UAE and the rest of the Gulf region for nearly 20 years and has acquired an excellent reputation for reliability over this period and continues to be specified and approved for many of the major projects in the region, says Conren.

Major projects completed with Rooftex waterproofing system last year include: Dubai Internet City, a four-storey office complex for Emarat, American University for the Government of Dubai, CitiBank Building at Oud Mehta, an accommodation block for Dubai Aluminium Company (Dubal) and the Gold and Diamond Souk and Emirates Lake villas project, both for Emaar Properties.

''These are just some of the many projects where Rooftex has been used,'' says Bernard Dennis, a spokesman for Conren International, ''and it is encouraging for Conren/DRFCO to have such a prestigious track record at a time when the financial constraints of some clients dictate that cheaper products be used - which in turn can compromise the quality of the actual membrane used and ultimately affect the well-being of the building itself.

''The main areas of use for Rooftex waterproofing system are new and refurbished roofs, wet areas (that is, bathrooms, shower rooms, balconies etc) in hotels, planter boxes and fountains, podium decks, foundations and basement areas, in fact, virtually any situation where waterproofing is a problem!

''The Rooftex waterproofing system is based on a cold-applied, moisture curing, modified polyurethane membrane which is seamless and easy to apply to difficult areas.''

The UAE distributor, DRFCO, offers a service which includes the provision of insulation from its own production unit in Dubai and therefore is able to provide a complete service for the specifier and client - from the initial discussions concerning the correct specification and competitive pricing to the supply and application of the total waterproofing and insulation package, supported by appropriate guarantees from the manufacturers, he points out.

Conren has been established for 30 years and apart from the waterproofing products, also manufactures and supplies a full range of liquid-applied flooring products based on polyurethane, epoxy and cementitious systems.
