The construction industry in the UAE will soon be overloaded if there is no restraint on new construction, warns Khalaf Al Habtoor, chairman of the Al Habtoor Group. Habtoor stressed that there were already too many office buildings and shopping malls in Dubai and construction companies were suffering due to oversupply, the Gulf News quoted him as saying. While the construction of offices and residential buildings under way in Dubai would attract Asians and GCC nationals, it would not attract people from Europe and the US, he said.

Road expansion gets go-ahead

Dubai: Dubai has given the go-ahead for a Dh27.3 million ($7.43 million) road expansion project which includes widening of the existing Al Safouh Road, construction of new internal roads in Block 372, widening of Dubai College road into a two-lane dual carriageway, and widening of Umm Suqueim Road into a two-lane carriageway.

The roads department will also submit appropriate plans to beautify the existing roundabout at the project site and implement them accordingly. The project will be completed within the next 10 months.
