
Dubai firm wins Russian deal
Dubai: A Jebel Ali-based desalination firm has won a $26 million contract to build a plant to supply Russia's Black Sea resort of Gelenjdik with its entire drinking water requirements, the company said.
The resort's mayor signed the contract in Dubai for the plant, which is the first of its kind in Russia, according to Gulf News. The project is designed to produce 40,000 cu m of drinking water daily and would be completed in 18 months to start production in summer of 2002.
Contract inked for cargo terminal
Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi has signed a deal with a local company for the first phase of a new Dh35 million ($9.5 million) airport cargo terminal that will offer airlines larger storage and office space, civil aviation officials said.
The project, first announced in June 1998 by Abu Dhabi Civil Aviation Department's director of engineering Dr Abdullah Bilhalf Al Nuaimi, will be built in three phases.
The contract for the first phase, worth Dh17 million ($4.6 million), was signed by the department's chairman Shaikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, and a senior executive of Al Nasr Irrigation and Contracting.
The first phase, which will be completed in a year, includes the construction of a freight storage building providing 8,500 sq m of space on the ground floor and 1,500 sq m on the mezzanine level.
"The new bonded warehouse facility is designed to supplement the existing cargo freight capacity to meet increasing demand," an official said.
$1bn Libya contract imminent
Tripoli: The $1 billion engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Libya's onshore Wafa gasfield in block NC-169 is expected to be awarded by the National Oil Corporation (NOC) and Italy's Eni this month.
Work will include installing 30-inch-diameter and 16-inch-diameter twin gas and liquid pipelines linking the field with the onshore central gas processing plant at Melitah. The plan also includes the capacity to connect previously-discovered local oil and gas reserves to the Wafa network.
Egypt firm wins Oman work
Cairo: Egypt-based construction company AIC has signed a $94 million contract to build an electricity plant in the north of Oman, the firm said.
AIC, formerly known as Arabian International Construction, is one of Egypt's largest construction firms with projects in Egypt, Africa and the Middle East. No further details were immediately available.
