SIEMENS Qatar’s specialist unit Siemens Water Technologies will provide French company Vinci Construction with odour-reducing technology for its pump station 70 in Al Kheisa, Qatar.

Under the contract, valued at approximately $3.5 million, Siemens will provide the latest gas scrubbing solutions for the North Doha Pumping Station, which will be able to treat up to 170,000 cu m/hour of odorous air.

“Vinci, with very limited space to install the odour control equipment, was looking for a multistage chemical system that only Siemens was able to deliver,” says a company spokesman. “The system, designed to minimise space requirements, will arrive at the job site completely assembled and of unitary construction.”

Siemens will provide odour control systems for the four main odour producing sources in the pump station, including the inlet screen chambers, lifting pump station, forwarding pump station and interceptor sewer.

Siemens Qatar CEO Martin à Porta said: “These are vital in making sure odours are not released into the atmosphere and this project will ensure that 99.9 per cent of odour-creating pollutants are removed from the emissions emanating from the facility.”

The contract was awarded by the consortium building the facility, a joint venture between Vinci Construction, QDVC (Qatar Diar Vinci Construction) and Entrepose Contracting.
