The client’s representative requested a number of samples for the massive boundary wall.

SIGMA Paints Qatar (SPQ) has secured a contract to supply its products to paint the boundary wall of the Emiri Guard headquarters, becoming the official supplier for the Emir and the government. The job involves supplying paint for the 200,000 sq m boundary wall that extends 8 km and stands at a height of 13 m.

Scheduled for completion next month (November), the wall is being painted with Sigma’s 0852 acrylic primer/sealer, 0815 textured MP and 0944 Sigmacryl Semi-gloss Extra. The value of paint is approximately QR2 million ($550,000).
“Despite intense competition and not being included on the original approved vendor list, SPQ’s decorative sales team – with great support from the company’s sample maker – were able to win over the contractor, consultant and eventually the client, to commence the supply of paint for the massive boundary wall,” says Malcolm Page, general manager of SPG.
“It is another successful project win for Sigma Qatar. Salesman Fyzel Sheriff, supported by sales manager Vinod Thayyil, once again beat off the competition to win the prestigious Emiri Guard facility boundary wall painting contract,” he adds.
Sigma, in turn, demonstrated its ability and versatility in responding to the client’s multiple requests, as well as to provide durable protection for the boundary wall, he says.
Sigma’s speedy customer service and the superior quality of its products, which met all specifications proved to be other success factors in this challenging royal project.
“Sigma’s successful partnership with Al Balagh, the contractor, convinced the consultants Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB) and the client of the company’s ability to meet and even exceed expectations and to complete the project with quality products in line with its three-centuries-old noble heritage and three decades of Middle East presence,” he adds.
Since its inception in 2002, Sigma Paints Qatar has quickly become one of the largest paint suppliers in Qatar, and has been involved in many of the major infrastructure and oil and gas projects that have been dominating both the headlines and the skylines.
Meanwhile, Sigma Paints has lent colour and imagination in the production of its new pre-qualification document.
The new-generation Pre-Q includes a detailed description not only about its products and projects but sets out to be a reference manual for the paint sector.
Highlighting the reason for producing such an extensive document, Ira Linea von Vitte, PR and communications manager Middle East, says: “Sigma does not only wish to qualify for any particular project, but also aims to remain the undisputed reference in paints in terms of service, quality and environmental standards. To this end, Sigma has taken the lead in educating the various markets it operates in on the multiple benefits of quality coating systems. Sigma has applied the same dictum to its pre-qualification folder and raised it to a different level.”
The world of paints is colourful but complex at times, leaving even experts, consultants, architects and engineers with little knowledge about possible complications that may arise years after the paint job has been completed, she says, adding that they therefore risk being at the mercy of some skeletal details provided in a biased fashion.
“Apart from mandatory licences, certificates and extensive project reference list, our massive but very elegant Pre-Q folder offers many interesting sections,” says von Vitte.
“For instance, Specification Highlights is a highly technical yet practical coatings guideline describing the various paint types, functions, weather conditions, substrates and other prerequisites for a winning specification, and consequent application. It provides impartial, valuable and necessary information to secure the success of various paints jobs and subsequent protection of the property.
“Our numerous test certificates are accurate. Our quality assurance policies are impressive. Each of the 50 unique case studies in Project Highlights are well presented and highly informative, elaborating on the project, owner, consultant, contractor and penetrating the coating system, thus going deeper than skin and way beyond colours,” she says.
The company is quick to point out the decorative document is not a commercial sales tool to sell Sigma products, but is designed to encourage the industry to understand the coating challenges and the beauty of durable protection, so as to execute quality paint works for the benefit of the entire society and environment.
