JOTUN Paints has secured an EGP1-million ($182,548) deal to supply road-marking paint for Egypt’s Alexandria streets as well as trained personnel to execute the project.
The Norway-based supplier of paints, coatings and powder coatings has entered into a deal with Alexandria Governmental Bureau and Arab Contractors Company to deliver 40 tonnes of white and yellow road-marking paint.
Jotun Egypt has already supplied 35 tonnes of paint and is expecting to complete the delivery and paint works by the end of this year.
The work includes all the streets of Alexandria, including main thoroughfares such as Al Corniche Street, Gamal Abd Al Nasser Street, Al Horria Street and Airport Road.
The specialty paint product is an acrylic solvent-based formula that is formulated to resist abrasion in areas with high traffic and can also be applied with special glass beads to reflect light.
A Jotun Paints team will ensure that the site has undergone sufficient surface preparation in adherence to the specifications of the coating system to achieve maximum results, says a spokesman for the company.
According to him, Jotun’s road-marking paint has been selected due to its durability and quick-drying properties that will withstand the volume of vehicles that use the roads.
“We take pride in the fact that our products have been used in some of the most prestigious development and iconic landmarks across the globe,” said Per Harald Engesaeth, general manager, El Mohandes Jotun Paints Egypt. “The Alexandria project is also an opportunity for us to showcase the excellent features of our road marking paint, which has been tested by internationally and regionally recognised independent laboratories.”
Meanwhile, Jotun Paints has launched a new version of ‘ColourAdvisor’ – an easy-to-use online colour visualisation tool – that can be accessed in all 1,050 outlets comprising ‘Multicolour Centres’ and ‘Inspiration Centres’ across the Middle East. The enhanced software will help end-users do a ‘digital paint job’ by uploading a picture of their rooms and selecting the desired colours.
Jotun anticipates a high growth potential for the ColourAdvisor software with the Middle East consumer becoming more engaged in decorating or redecorating their homes and more informed about the role colour plays in creating the right ambience.
In addition, users can also benefit from the solution’s memory feature, which allows them to store information about their home decorating projects.
“Using the Internet for planning and product research is becoming more common among consumers, and we have identified the importance of leveraging this possibility to increase our customers’ satisfaction,” said Eirik Kristensen, regional marketing manager Middle East and North Africa (Mena), Jotun Paints.
