
Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) has invited bids for the construction of 66 charity accommodation units in the Omani wilayats of Ibra, Al Qabil, Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Mudhaibi, Izki, Sumail, Nizwa, Bahla, Ibri, Adam, Duqm, Mahut and Dalkout.
The OCO recently handed over the first set of the second batch of units comprising 23 rooms to Bedouin families. The second batch involves a total of 54 rooms built at a cost of RO86,450 ($224,500). Similar units have been built by the OCO in the wilayats of Adam, Al Qabil, Sur, Mahuat, Rustaq and Izki.
Sohar port work awarded
Muscat: The Tender Board has awarded projects worth RO15.3 million ($39.7 million), including the construction of breakwaters for Sohar new port at the cost of RO12.48 million and a roundabout and an internal road in Sur at a total cost of RO1.22 million.
Hidd Port tenders likely soon
Manama: Tenders for the construction of the Hidd industrial area and port in Bahrain will be issued in the next two months, according to the Minister of Works and Agriculture Ali Al Mahroos.
The tenders for the construction of the third Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Causeway to Hidd Port are also expected to be floated shortly following the completion of design work on the project.
Al Mahroos said that the first phase of the maintenance work on Shaikh Hamad Causeway which is currently under way will be completed by August-end.
Work on the second phase will start by the end of the year, he added.
Local contractors win $52m works
Muscat: Contracts worth RO20 million ($51.95 million) have been awarded by the Petroleum Development of Oman (PDO) to local contractors operating in its concession during the past two years.
These local companies will be responsible for transport services, paving roads, removal of sand, water transport and wells services.
Road construction job for Desert Line
Muscat: Transport and Housing Minister Malik bin Sulaiman Al Maamari has signed a contract with Desert Line Company for the construction of Hadbain-Hasik Road in Dhofar Governorate, Oman, at a cost of RO4.3 million ($11.17 million). The project is due to be completed by the end of 2002.
Consortium wins Alba project subcontract
Manama: A consortium of Turkey's Gulermark Heavy Industries Construction and Contracting Company and Bahrain's Mannai Engineering is expected to complete a BD7.4 million ($19.62 million) subcontract for Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) in Sitra, Bahrain, by the year-end. The civil contract was awarded as part of Alba's $400 million project of coke calcining and seawater desalination plant.
Gulermark undertook the construction of 10 large-capacity silos, using the slipforming technique. Mannai was responsible for the remaining civil construction works on the project.A joint representative office for Turkish companies is expected to open in Manama later this year.
