A Dh72 million ($20 million) desalination plant to produce 3 million gallons of water per day will be set up by the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa) in Ajman, UAE, as part of plans to ease the water shortage in the central region.

Fewa is considering building another station in Ras Al Khaimah. A 100 MW turbine at Ras Al Khaimah's Nakhil power station has been installed and another turbine will be installed at Fujairah's Qadfa station soon. Water-pipe connections are being extended to eight villages in Ras Al Khaimah.

An initial fund of Dh2.2 million has been allocated for purchasing 50 tankers with a capacity of 5,000-10,000 gallons to bring water from the coast to the main reservoir.
