Two elliptical towers known as The Helix that will create a spiralled effect through the unique balcony design settings of each apartment unit have recently launched on Al Reem Island by real estate developer Arady.
“The inspiration behind The Helix was to create something outstanding and different,” said a company spokesperson. “As you look at either the North or South tower of The Helix, you cannot fail to notice the unique way in which the building creates the impression of rising out of the ground in a spiral format – hence the name The Helix, derived from the Greek word ‘Helices’, which can either be a right or left-handed three-dimensional spiral shape.”
The overall concept has been created by the Canada-based Zeidlar Partnership, one of the world’s leading signature architects. The North and South Towers sit on a single podium with three levels of basement car parking beneath. Each tower will have 30 floors, reaching a height of 120 m, and will include studios, one to three-bedroom apartments, and penthouses. The towers are expected to be completed by mid-2010.
Commenting on the design of the apartments, the spokesperson says: “Each apartment has been carefully thought out and designed to the highest specifications, using high quality materials. The use of natural light and space is accentuated by the special floor-to-ceiling windows which also provide fantastic views across the Arabian Gulf and vistas of the desert and Al Reem island itself.”
Each apartment will have a dedicated car parking space and amenities include boutique retail shops, a swimming pool, health club, gymnasium, spa, landscaped gardens and children’s playground.
“Those who enter the buildings from the street level will be greeted by large spacious entrance lobbies. The ground floor will have a combination of boutique retail outlets for the convenience of the residents. Access to all floors is via express lifts,” he adds.
