The partnership of Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company and a local company has been awarded the dredging and reclamation contract for the Bahrain Investment Wharf (BIW).
BIW chairman Ahmed Al Qattan said that the contract award for the dredging and reclamation signals the completion of a major phase in the BIW project development plan.
“The reclamation works of 55 per cent of the remaining land of the Bahrain Investment Wharf will be completed in about 11 months’ time,” he added.
The Bahrain Investment Wharf is strategically located and is in the vicinity of both Khalifa bin Salman Seaport and Bahrain International Airport. It is also directly linked to the Saudi markets via King Fahad Causeway.
Developed by Tameer, BIW is a pioneering project capable of attracting local and global industries by virtue of services, facilities and reasonable prices it offers. The project will be executed in three phases, with phase 1 involving the development of the presently backfilled land. The other two phases will be developed afterwards.
The project will also include an industrial park, commercial complex, business cluster and residential compound. The industrial park is expected to house several light, medium-scale and convertible industries, while the services complex will accommodate transport, cargo and storage investors as well as other support companies. A logistic base and residential and commercial quarters will also be provided.
