International water treatment and desalination expert Metito, which has been focussing on retaining its position as a major player in the region, has recently completed a Dh25 million contract involving the installation of three sewage treatment plants in the towns of Baaya-Sila and Ghuwaifat of Abu Dhabi.
The scope of the contract encompassed the design, supply and installation of the state-of-the-art sewage treatment plants – constructed as part of the infrastructure development in the three towns – and handing over the completed project to the Sewerage Projects Committee at the Abu Dhabi Municipality.
Omar Al Zoubi, general manager of Metito in Abu Dhabi, says: “Over the years, Metito has designed, built, managed and financed many complex wastewater treatment facilities and its expertise in environmental compliance is quite renowned. Projects executed by Metito have delivered long-term environmental and economic benefits. This project in Baaya, Sila and Ghuwaifat gave us the opportunity to shed light on sustainable development, considering that water, wastewater treatment and commitment to environment are central for a better tomorrow.”
The project, which was part of the Western Region Sewerage Project catering to nine villages in Abu Dhabi’s Western Region, will help the country sustain the pace of social and economic development. The contract included mechanical works associated with nine pumping stations, effluent storage and irrigation reuse facilities including an effluent tanker filling station and other related works.
Al Zoubi adds: “Metito is devoted to protecting the environment through action-oriented programmes and community involvement. Over the years, the company has developed a solid track record of successful relationships through initiatives targeted at mitigating environmental impacts. We were determined to ensure that the systems we introduced in the project were eco-friendly and the new sewage treatment plants did not impact the environment in any way.”
Metito also provided a SCADA system to control and monitor the sewage treatment plant and sewage lift stations. The project consultant was KEO International Consultants in joint venture with the US-based Metcalf and Eddy.
“It was imperative for us to ensure that the treated effluent was of safe quality to be used later for irrigation purposes. By successfully executing this project, we have once again demonstrated our expertise in the area,” adds Al Zoubi.
Metito is a leading international company in the provision of wastewater treatment, desalination and water supply projects. It serves a global client base in Europe, Asia and Africa with engineering, design, plant manufacturing and chemical production facilities in the UAE.
