Oman Tender Board (OTB) is currently evaluating the bids for a RO384.9 million ($1 billion) sewage project.

The scope of work covers the installation of a 53,000 cu m per day sewage treatment plant to be built at Al Ansab in the capital Muscat. It will also involve the installation of a control system for the entire project and construction of a main collector.
The successful bidder will be required to set up various pumping stations and connection to serve a network of 18,000 properties as well as two power generators.
China Railway and Sinohydro Corporation, both of China, hope to win the sewage treatment plant contract. OTB is expecting to award the contract in the fourth quarter of this year.
The two firms have been included in the shortlist of six companies to be awarded one of the biggest contracts in the country. The other four companies in the shortlist are Egypt’s Societe Egyptienne Denterprises, The Arab Contractors, Larsen and Toubro of India and local firm Galfar Engineering and Contracting.
Meanwhile, Oman has also signed a loan agreement with the Japan Bank for International Corporation (JBIC) worth RO25 million ($65 million) to finance construction of the Quriyat-Sur road.
The loan will help finance 45 per cent of the total cost of the road, which is estimated at RO56.2 million. Abu Dhabi Development Fund has already financed 45 per cent of the project’s cost and the Sultanate’s government will fund the remaining 10 per cent.
The Quriyat-Sur road will serve the existing projects in the Sharqiyah region including the LNG gas terminal and the fertiliser plant, both of which the government considers as important sources of income. The 90-km-long road is also expected to enhance economic activities including tourism in the area.
