Aquator Bahrain, a leading specialist in water treatment systems, has a busy schedule after having won several contracts for the installation of water treatment systems in the region.

The company was recently awarded the contract to design and supply membranes for what it claims to be the largest submerged membrane bioreactor (MBR) facility in the world. The contract, awarded by Oman Wastewater Services Company, for the Al Ansab project in Muscat, involves the treatment of 76,000 cu m per day of municipal wastewater, says a spokesman.
In addition, the company has also won the contract to design and supply membranes for two MBR plants in Saudi Arabia. The contracts, awarded by Wetico-Saudi Berkefeld, on behalf of Almarai Dairy Corporation, involves the separate treatment of 4000 cu m/day of industrial (dairy) wastewater and 510 cu m/day of sewage.
The company has recently commissioned the first commercial MBR in the Gulf. The industrial treatment plant, built for Qatar Vinyl Corporation, has been operating since October 2003.
“These are very exciting times for us. Our technology has come of age, and we stand ready to cater for wastewater treatment requirements in the region,” he says.
Aquator Bahrain was recently taken over by UK-based ACWa Services, which is a process engineering group with more than 60 engineering staff and a vast experience in the Middle East. It has also been involved with the commissioning of the original plant at Almarai Dairy, plus Sharjah Stage 6.
Being a member of the Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) group of companies, Aquator now becomes part of an organisation with a workforce of 60,000 people and an annual turnover of $2 billion, he adds.
