Finland-based iLOQ says its iLOQ S50 is the world’s first NFC self-powered lock cylinder, which generates the energy needed for unlocking from a smartphone running the iLOQ S50 app. This secure solution has been designed specifically to unlock a world of possibilities for the utilities industry, according to the company.

“Utility providers, such as power production and distribution companies, telecom network services, data centres, water treatment plants, property services and transportation services, regularly face the challenge of simultaneously managing numerous sites and vast numbers of locks. A huge number of keys are in constant circulation,” explains a spokesman for the company.

With iLOQ S50, a smartphone is the key. Access rights to all property locks can be remotely shared and multiple sites can be conveniently consolidated into one user-friendly and secure cloud-based software platform, saving resources and simplifying access management, he says.

iLOQ in 2016 announced the NFC product family that would utilise NFC technology to its full potential.

The iLOQ S50 – with keyless, NFC-enabled mobile access technology and secure cloud-based access sharing – is claimed to be the first lock cylinder on the planet to harvest energy for unlocking from a smartphone. iLOQ S50 takes keys, batteries and excess wiring out of the equation allowing for significant product lifecycle savings, according to the spokesman.

“This advanced technology is designed to solve difficult issues facing the utilities industry and simplify daily operations. iLOQ S50 is an ideal solution for consolidating multiple (and remote) location management, saving businesses time and resources.

“A functioning, reliable utilities industry is essential for a smoothly-running society. iLOQ offers the needed security paired with efficient over-the-air access sharing that eases operating logistics and reduces costs associated with mechanical and battery-powered electronic locks. Managing multiple sites and multiple personnel has been simplified,” the spokesman adds.

iLOQ provides smart locking and secure access to buildings and spaces used daily and caters to the needs of industry and the utility sector with mobile and digital solutions for efficient access sharing and management.

The company is a leading innovator in self-powered digital and mobile access management, with a strong portfolio of safe and sustainable products that have been designed to make life easier.

“iLOQ is a Finnish growth company that has transformed mechanical locking into highly functional and immensely secure digital access management. It provides self-powered digital locking and mobile access management solutions that have revolutionised the locking industry. The innovative technology and software are developed and patented by iLOQ – enabling electronic locking without batteries or cables,” he remarks.

iLOQ will be part of the Finnish Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai in October this year. Commenting on the reasons behind its participation at the event, the spokesman says: “Our main objective is to establish the reputation of iLOQ as a company and build iLOQ as a brand in selected growth markets in the Middle East and UAE regions.

“Expo 2020 will provide the opportunity to identify resellers and partners to represent iLOQ in the regions. Its unique technology is already making life more accessible in the West, and the company would like to capitalise on its presence at Expo 2020 to bring the benefits of digital locking to a wider audience.”
