AN exclusive partnership agreement between Mawad International Door Hardware Manufacturing Company (Mawad) and Stanley Security Systems is earning rich dividends, thanks to a buoyant Saudi market, with the partners now looking at taking it to the next level of growth.

Stanley Security Systems is a division of Stanley Black and Decker, the leading manufacturer of commercial grade architectural hardware and locks and one of the world’s leaders in hardware systems and tools for the architectural, construction, industrial and residential sectors.

Mawad has been the exclusive stockist for Stanley Security Systems since 2006. The company has secured a strong reputation for the specialist supply of door hardware systems in this highly-competitive sector with its success through several exclusive partnerships with top global manufacturers such as Stanley Security Systems, backed by in-house technical expertise available across the kingdom.

The company has developed formidable technical knowledge and engineering support at the sharp end of contract supply with extensive stocking facilities in-kingdom through these exclusive partnerships. The company’s services range from pre-sales to consultancy including specification support, preparation of construction documents and submittals for mechanical access systems, security systems and automatic entrances.

Mawad has been witnessing dynamic business growth due to its success in providing high quality and cutting-edge door systems, access systems, accessories and security solutions working as a partner with customers and technology providers for an increasing number of leading projects across Saudi Arabia.

An increasing reference list of large-scale projects where Mawad has supplied door hardware and security systems reflects a high level of technical expertise in which thousands of doors and security solutions are installed and fitted.
Mawad has supplied door hardware systems to many of the kingdom’s high-profile projects including King Abdullah Science and Technology (Kaust), Najran University, Princess Nora University (PNU), King Saud University (KSU), Ministry of Interior projects and technical colleges.

Specialisation is the key to Mawad’s success with the organisation in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province serving the requirements of contractors and clients through its pre-sales technical services.

According to Michael Carrington, regional general manager for Stanley in the Middle East and South Asia, the importance of Saudi Arabian cannot be understated and appropriate resources are focused on the kingdom to meet demand.

“The scale of the Mawad organisation across the kingdom and our association with many of the leading projects reflects the significant positioning of Stanley ANSI standard security solutions in Saudi Arabia in the past few years and the range of hardware systems that are being provided.

In the case of Kaust, Mawad supplied 6,500 Stanley door hardware systems and for the Princess Nora Bint Abdul Rahman University (PNU) under construction in Riyadh there are 6,000 Stanley door systems specified and supplied for the campus.

“Although we are associated with many of the larger projects in the kingdom, we also have new business from refurbishments and upgrades to universities, educational establishments, medical facilities and corporate offices where security solutions are increasingly in demand,” says Carrington.

Stanley provides technical assistance in partnership with Mawad in writing specifications through its SpecCentre Services, an independent organisation within Stanley Security Solutions. SpecCentre Services are developed specifically for architects, building owners, and engineers to assist with the preparation of both new construction and retrofit projects and is available in the kingdom for consultants and specifiers.

“Stanley employs a global architectural consultant, Mark Unglaub, to liaise with architects and to offer the SpecCentre Services to write door schedules that approach the solution from a generic ANSI product line rather than just Stanley products. Stanley is extremely strong in terms of safety and security systems so we have many applications in educational establishments, schools, university and medical facilities. Stanley is also exploring the development of local manufacturing in Saudi Arabia through the re-assembly of specific systems in the future. Stanley is seeking to strengthen its partnership to support clients on a local basis,” adds Carrington.

Mawad’s vision is to be the leading total solution provider of door hardware and accessories and access control systems in Saudi Arabia. According to Faisaluddin Khawaja, business development manager based in Riyadh, Mawad is going from strength to strength in the door hardware systems sector.

“We work closely with our partners and secure alliances with world-class technology providers delivering internationally-recognised quality standards, and, in effect, work as an extended arm of our client’s organisation from pre-sales to procurement and installation aimed at achieving a total building control access control and security solution,” Khawaja says.

Khawaja has been involved on many of the key projects secured by Mawad, including Kaust, and has been actively involved on PNU and other key projects such as the hospital in Mina where 3,500 door systems were specified, King Faisal University  and King Saud University where 4,000 systems were procured.

“There are many door manufacturers involved on such projects and the specifications and having the correct technical details in the scheduling of a project are complicated,” he says.

“As a solution provider, Mawad is involved on a daily and weekly basis during the project cycle and technically supporting the projects management and delivery teams. A door system and the locking mechanisms to me are pieces of art and Mawad approaches the solutions required for a particular project with experience and we are looking at the differential functions required for the various applications.

“This can range from the hardware solutions to electrical doors, the specifications of the locking cases, the master-key systems and the development of wireless systems too.

“The Mawad value-driven approach is based on developing close, long-term relationships of trust and loyalty with clients, identifying real needs, pulling together local and international alliances, and devising optimal solutions. We are committed to providing our clients with all their requirements in order to get the job done efficiently and to high quality standards backed by benchmarked training and technical expertise.”

Stanley is boosting its comprehensive range of Stanley door hardware systems, access control, building security, intelligent building and electrical hardware components as well as integrated security systems. Carrington also emphasises the growing importance of Stanley automatic doors to its product portfolio for Saudi Arabia and the introduction of local support for the master key system manufacture.

Mawad recently welcomed a high-level team from Stanley headquarters in Indianapolis, US, which included the vice-presidents of engineering, marketing and product development visiting key projects including Kaust in early October.

The Stanley team is looking to strengthen the technical support available to Saudi clients, launch the local assembly of hardware systems and receive technical feedback to enhance product development through its research and development facilities in Indianapolis.
