BW 161 AD-40 ... economy of use.

BOMAG has set new performance standards on soil compaction with the 32-tonne Bomag BW 332, claimed to be the heaviest single-drum roller in the world. This new class of roller will be showcased at bauma 2010, where Bomag intends to highlight its cost-cutting capability.

The company will also present its new pivot-steered tandem roller in the 10-tonne class. Based on the successful BW 174 AP, the new fourth generation model features many innovations, including ergonomic cab and operating concepts. For the first time, Bomag will present the original field-test machine with hybrid drive alongside the pivot-steered BW 174 AP with Asphalt Manager, a measuring system that optimises the compaction performance whilst rolling.
Among innovations on small tandems, Bomag will showcase its new generation of light tandem rollers under 1.8 tonnes.
“The BW 80 series fifth generation machines continue to be one of the most successful roller lines in the world,” says a spokesman for Bomag. “A total of six models with an operating weight of 1.4 tonnes to 1.6 tonnes will be on show at bauma with a new design and a powerful proven Kubota engine.”
Bomag will also be showcasing new products for the milling and finishing market, which it entered in 2006. Among its latest innovations is the 300-hp class of milling machines with extra manoeuvrability, and the redesigned 600-hp class, which were introduced at Intermat 2009, the leading construction equipment show held in Paris, France last April. The company is now using bauma to launch the BM 500/15, the first compact and ergonomic milling machine designed and built at its Boppard manufacturing base in Germany.
The finisher programme has also enjoyed further developments. The BF 300 finisher series will now be shown with wheel-drive versions at bauma. “This range offers the most flexible machines on the market, with unbeatable transport widths of 2.50 m including attached extensions and side plates,” says the spokesman. “The stable, easy-to-adjust operator’s station provides the best driver comfort. The BF 600 finisher range also features quick-change screed extensions and front windshield with side guards.”

Light equipment
About 30 per cent of machines in the Bomag light equipment range at bauma will be new products. Leading the innovations will be the new BMP 8500 multipurpose compactor, which made its world première at NordBau 2009, the north German construction exhibition held last September. This unit is now making its appearance at the show with the Bomag Operator Security System (Boss), a new innovative back-up protection system.
Meanwhile, the BT 60/4 and BT 65/4 tampers have new designs and features. Single direction plates will be featured on two new model ranges to meet the requirements of different types of users, says the spokesman.
Bomag will also be showing purpose-built solutions for its overseas markets, uniting attractive price-performance ratios with simple operation and servicing, capable of handling many jobs, even under difficult climatic conditions.
Among these machines is the BW 161 AD-40 articulated tandem roller in the 10-tonne class, which uses successful technology from the Bomag fourth generation series.
Popular features have been united in one design which can handle difficult conditions, on medium and large works. This includes inner-city construction, and road projects requiring high surface finish. This unit features first-class compaction performance, a reliable, powerful Deutz diesel engine (exhaust emission Stage III A/Tier III) and efficient hydraulics using components from renowned manufacturers. Economy of use played a major part in the development of this roller, says the spokesman.
