Oman’s Al Rajhi Development Company (ARDC) has won a contract worth RO128 million ($332.5 million) to build 2,200 houses under the first phase of a project to rehabilitate people affected by the construction of a new coastal road in the Batinah region of the sultanate.

Built in traditional Omani architectural design, the houses are to be handed over in 42 months.
More than 11,000 people, who will be displaced by the 240-km highway, will be provided with homes under a plan drawn up by the Supreme Committee for Town Planning.
In the first phase, houses will be built in the wilayats or districts of Barka, Musanah, Liwa and Shinas.
The project will also involve construction and lighting of about 140 km of internal roads, according to National Economy Minister Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, who signed the deal on behalf of the government with ARDC’s CEO Omar bin Suleiman Al Rajhi.
Tenders for the 132-km first phase of the new highway were to be floated last month.
