Scott Wilson to masterplan Durrat
Durrat Al Bahrain has appointed Scott Wilson Group to masterplan its golf precinct as part of the $6 billion island city development in Bahrain.

The golf course and surrounding precinct is a key element of Durrat Al Bahrain, Bahrain’s largest planned luxury residential, commercial and tourist resort development. In addition to the 18-hole course, designed by world-renowned golfer Ernie Els, the project will include a luxury hotel, residential villas, a club house and a health and wellness centre. The course, set to become one of the region’s leading golfing destinations, will be surrounded by waterways, canals and landscaped greenery. 
Gulf Extrusions opens Saudi office
Gulf Extrusions, one of the largest aluminium extrusion plants in the Gulf, has opened a full-fledged sales office in Saudi Arabia, to capitalise on the kingdom’s construction boom.
The Saudi office will also allow Gulf Extrusions to provide an enhanced level of services to its existing clients in the kingdom, while providing a greater opportunity to the company to attract new clients, at a time when the consumption of extruded aluminium in Saudi Arabia is more than the production.
Saudi, US JV plans soda ash plant
A joint venture of Saudi Arabia-based S&A Abahsain Company and US-based General Chemical (Soda Ash) has agreed to construct a one-million-tonne-per-year soda ash operation in Saudi Arabia.
The first phase is scheduled to commence during 2010. The plant, which will utilise the Solvay process, will be constructed in two phases, each with a production capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year. Raw materials for the plant including, salt, limestone, and energy will be supplied from local sources.
Freyssinet wins KAEC design deal
Freyssinet Saudi Arabia has won an SR348 million ($92.9 million) contract from Emaar, The Economic City (Emaar EC) for the design and construction of the first phase of the Business Park within Bay La Sun Village – an integrated residential community – at the King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC).
As part of the contract, Freyssinet Saudi Arabia will design and construct the first phase featuring two office buildings and a two-storey basement parking.
One building will be for the exclusive use of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (Sagia), the prime facilitator of KAEC; and the other will be partially occupied by Emaar EC.
The five-building Business Park covers a total area of 258,000 sq m and will have the entire range of amenities including hi-speed Internet and telecom connectivity, and quality finishes.
