The new lights offer better energy savings and enhanced lighting.

Al Nasser Company, a Riyadh-based leading trading establishment, is currently promoting the enhanced series of the Master TL5 lamps and gear range from the Netherlands-based Philips Lighting in the Saudi market.

The new Philips Master TL5 VHO (very high output) range of lamp and gear systems, set to hit the Saudi markets towards the end of the year, is expected to cut on energy consumption, while enhancing lighting efficiency.
It will allow architects, builders and facility managers to make use of the latest high-quality lighting systems, whilst reducing installation costs, says a Philips Lighting spokesman.
“TL5 VHO lamps run on electronic control gear, providing energy/CO2 savings and have lower running costs than TL-D/T8 lamps that run on electromagnetic ballasts,” says the spokesman.
“The electronic gear also ensures flicker-free operation, longer lamp life and improved safety. These lamps give constant light output over a broad temperature range from 10 deg C to 60 deg C, which means more light from compact luminaries,” he adds.
“The lamps that can give up to 9,300 lumens of instant white, dimmable light, significantly reduces energy and maintenance costs as they run on electronic gear. There is also the added bonus of longer lamp life at 24,000 hours, and the installation costs are reduced because of the reduced luminaire requirement. Philips TL5 VHO lamps can also be dimmed down to 20 per cent, offering additional energy/CO2 savings.”
“In addition, the new range of lamps is also 40 per cent thinner in diameter than conventional TL-D/T8 lamps, allowing the creation of highly compact and thoroughly modern looking fittings – such as suspended luminaires. With so much light available, there is plenty for both downwards general light and upwards decorative effects,” he adds.
The new lamps also promise a wide range of applications and are ideal for use in areas with high ceilings such as factories, hypermarkets, sport halls, public buildings, offices, DIY stores, shopping malls, railway stations, warehouses, airports, schools, exhibition centres and many more.
The spokesman continues: “The new Philips Master TL5 VHO range is based on the proven Master TL5 technology which, with its high colour rendering and 24,000 hours lifetime, provides superior performance. Importantly, the lamps are environmentally friendly – using less energy, mercury, glass in the tube, metal in the base and paper in the packaging, and are fully recyclable.”
Philips Lighting initially launched the Master TL5 lamps and gear – a 16 mm diameter lamp operated on electronic (HF) gear – in 1995. “The company has now added innovative features to this product range which includes the Philips ActiLume, Philips Master TL5 VHO and the Philips Master TL5 HO Amalgam lamps series,” says Mohammed Al Nasser, a spokesman for Al Nasser Company.
Philips Master TL5 HO Amalgam lamps incorporate special amalgam technology, which enables constant high light output (90 per cent) over a wide temperature range of 10 degree centigrade to 60 deg C. Amalgam lamps offer a better light output ratio in these environments, meaning that more light comes out of the luminaire. Moreover, the lamps will provide instant white light and will be dimmable. They will be retrofitted with existing Master TL5 HO lamps and will be available by the end of this year.
“Philips ActiLume lighting control system, launched at the end of 2005, is designed for maximum comfort and automatic energy savings of up to 75 per cent,” says Al Nasser. “In addition to switching the lights on or off depending on occupancy, the system can also regulate lighting in the room depending on daylight. A simple push on the sensor button is enough to set up the system for open-plan or cell offices, so there is no need for complicated programming or manual controls.”
The launch of Philips ActiLume comes together with a new range of electronic gear incorporating Philips EII technology. This new generation of gear incorporates multiple benefits such as cooler operating performance for optimum lifetime, miniaturised and standardised sizes and minimised gear losses. The result is the most optimal system efficiency possible, providing the end user with maximum cost savings. The new generation of gear is available in multiple types (regulator and performer) for different lamp families (TL5, TL-D, PL-L).
A Saudi Arabia-focused company, Al Nasser has over the years opened offices in Jeddah, Khamis, Dammam, Qassim, Makkah and Madinah.
