Buoyed by winning prestigious contracts for the Bahrain World Trade Center (BWTC) and the Diplomat Radisson SAS furnished apartments, Sayyar Trading is now looking to expand its presence across the GCC.
“As the BWTC is an elite and sophisticated project, the client’s key criteria in choosing the sanitary fittings and accessories included style, quality, reliability, water-saving features and low-maintenance costs,” says Wael Sayyar, managing director of the Bahrain-based firm.
Luxury fittings from renowned international brands have been installed in the shopping mall and the towers of the BWTC and were delivered on a fast-track basis.
“Within 10 days of the client placing the order, the entire consignment of concealed-in-wall parts was airlifted in a special cargo flight and supplied to site immediately so that the contractor’s construction schedule was not disrupted. This was one of the most outstanding challenges of this contract,” Sayyar says. “We have since then completed the supply contract and understand that the installation teams at the project site have now fitted most of our supplies on site.”
Some of the luxury fittings that have been installed at the BWTC include:
• Top-of-the-line Aveo range from Germany’s Villeroy & Boch, which draws inspiration from the egg and comes with soft-closing seats and covers. The range’s newly-developed concealed fastening system allows for a smooth and sophisticated exterior that is ideal for maintenance and cleanliness in a public environment;
• Sensor-operated concealed flush mechanisms, which are part of the sophisticated sanitary ware installations in the BWTC;
• Designo Sensor mixers from Hansa of Germany. This exclusive range of battery-operated sensor mixers has photovoltaic cells to increase the operational life and achieve water savings over a period of time. The mixers are fitted on the Diverta line of vanity basins from Spain’s Roca, throughout the development; and
• The Meta02 range of accessories from Germany’s Dornbracht, which grace the walls.
Sayyar Trading also deals with Germany’s Aliseo (hotel accessories) and Dietsche (accessories), Norway’s Timelox (hotel door locking systems), France’s Roland Vlaemynck (garden and swimming pool furniture), Irwin from Europe and US for theatre, auditorium and sports seating, Imsa and Metalliform for sports seating, Elkay (water coolers) and UK’s Grovewood (kitchen systems) and UK’s Marshalls (pavers, street/urban furniture).
Established in Bahrain in 1978, Sayyar Trading has grown into a major importing and manufacturing enterprise in the region. Its product portfolio includes seating, street/urban furniture, pavers, ceramic and porcelain tiles, sanitary ware, bathroom accessories, mixers and fittings, built-in kitchens, marble, granite, parquet and Topstone solid surfaces. The company has a large showroom on Exhibition Avenue and two large warehousing facilities in Barbar and Sitra.
Sayyar Trading started operations in Qatar in 1998 and has an exclusive showroom and manufacturing venture called Techno Tec Building Industries, which started operations in 2000. Initially manufacturing strip ceilings and surfacing material, the factory has now launched production of large-format metal ceiling tiles measuring 60 by 60 cm, which has been “well received in the market”.
As part of its expansion plans, Sayyar Trading plans to establish a state-of-the-art showroom as well as a kitchen showroom over the next year. Having established itself in directional drilling through its subsidiary BHDD, the company now intends to venture into other new fields such as energy management systems (EMS) and specialised drain solutions with Germany-based ACO as its partner.
Sayyar Trading’s project portfolio boasts several landmarks in Bahrain, including the Supreme Council of Women’s headquarters, the Government House, Sheraton Hotel, Novotel Al Dana, Gulf Hotel’s south wing, Regency Intercontinental, Mirador Hotel, Citibank headquarters, BNH headquarters, Elite Suites, Elite Apartments 3 and 5, Al Jazira Tower and Golden Sands Phase II, among others.
Among its recent prestigious projects was one for the Bahrain International Circuit in 2003, where it completed the design, supply and installation of seating in record time to the complete satisfaction of the clients and the German consultant.
“Our customers both in the private and the public sectors vouch for the quality of our products and the reliability of our company, which has been the key to our success both in Bahrain and in Qatar. We feel that the goodwill that we have earned in our industry over the years, backed by the current construction boom in the Middle East, will further boost our growth in the near future,” concludes Sayyar.
