Bahrain-based paint manufacturer Arabian Paints & Inks Factory (Prisma) an ISO 9001:2000 certified company is responsible for providing all the coating solutions for the Bahrain World Trade Center (BWTC) project under a supply-and-apply contract.

“While the BWTC is our second largest project – after the Bahrain International Racing Circuit – Formula-1 in terms of volumes of paints and coatings, it is however our largest supply-and-apply project,” says Rayyan Khalid Mohammed Al Gosaibi, managing director.
Prisma paints has supplied and applied decorative paints, floor coatings (including epoxy and polyurethane (PU) coatings), road-marking paints, deck coatings, kerbstone paints, wood finishes and specialty paints at the BWTC. The company started supplying the project in May last year – the first coating systems having been its full range of decorative paints for walls and PU/epoxy floor coats for the fast-track Sheraton car-parking facility project.
The decorative paints are being used in all the office floors, mall areas and the Garden Court areas. To date, it has completed around 75 per cent of its contract.
Prisma is pleased that it secured the deal against stiff multinational competition.
“Despite being an indigenous manufacturer, we won this prestigious contract in the face of severe competition from a number of multinational paint manufacturers,” says Shrikanth Iyer, sales and marketing manager.

Prisma has also established a good reputation in the market since its inception in 1994 and has grown from strength to strength over the years. Equipped with the latest machinery, it offers a varied range of architectural, protective and industrial coatings and furniture lacquers. These include polyurethane, epoxy, acrylic emulsion and anti-carbonation coatings, specialised coatings for tracks, fluorescent, road marking paints, floor coats and car-park paints as well as deck coatings.
To ease the colour selection process for its clients, Prisma has developed a multi-tinting system in cooperation with Coloris of France, offering a choice of more than 16,000 colours through tinting machines.
To further its growth in the market, Prisma has recently launched a major expansion drive, which entails intensifying its sales efforts while expanding capacity to cope with the anticipated surge in demand. Besides meeting domestic demand, Prisma exports its products to other GCC countries, where it is seeking to increase its market penetration. It is also looking at aggressively entering Asian markets.
As part of these efforts, the company has tied up with Al Jabor Trading Company, one of the largest trading firms in Doha, Qatar. The first major breakthrough into the Qatari paint market was the award of the supply-and-apply deal for the 40-storey Al-Jazeera Tower by the contractor Larsen & Toubro.
“Over the past six months, we have established an extensive distributor network in Qatar comprising 30 dealers and are on the verge of finalising a distributorship in Oman,” he says. “In addition, we have more than 100 dealers in Bahrain.”
To cope with the growth in demand for its products, Prisma has installed new machinery from Sweden earlier this year, which has boosted its production capacity for decorative paints by 25 per cent. The company has installed a high-tech spectrophotometer for quick shade matching, with utmost accuracy, from the world-leading spectro manufacturers.
In line with global trends in the market, the company is also focusing on developing eco-friendly paints. It has a research and development centre which is geared towards introducing new products on the market.

“Each and every batch of the produce is meticulously tested for quality assurance before it is dispatched for distribution in the market. Prisma’s motto, in fact, is ‘customer and quality first,” he says.

“We have also been recommended by well-known consultants including WS Atkins, Mohamed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau (MSCEB), Tilke & Partners, Adel Ahmadi Associates, Bahrain Engineering Bureau and Middle East Architects,” he says.
The company was the total solution provider of paints and coatings including Tracksion paints, polyurethane coatings, epoxy coatings and fluorescent paints for the Bahrain International Circuit project’s Formula-1 racing circuit for which it provided a range of standard and tailor-made coatings. Prisma is also a supplier of paints including anti-carbonation coatings to Bahrain’s Ministry of Housing projects.
Other projects it is involved with include the 22-storey Ebrahima Tower near the Central Market, a 20-storey building in Hoora, and 33 villas in Mahooz, and RUF car assembly at Zallaq.
Some of its completed projects include the Gulf Hotel Serviced Apartments, National Motors showroom, Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) club, Kanoo Medical Centre, Family Production Centre, Al Murjan Centre, AAA Homes, 33 Villas for the Royal Consulate etc.
