Saudi and Bahraini businessmen have agreed to lobby the Saudi government to break a monopoly on sand imports to Bahrain in a bid to lower prices.

Saudi Bahraini Business Council decided to recommend to the Saudi government that it did not renew exclusive rights to import sand to the Saudi Bahrain Transport Company (Sabtco) when its current contract expires in three months.
In a meeting held at the Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dammam, the two sides agreed that current sand prices were too high and were hurting the Bahraini construction industry.
