The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has invited bids for a new power and desalination plant – M station – which will increase power generation by 2,000 MW and water desalination capacity by 105 million gallons per day.
The project is estimated to cost Dh5.5 billion ($1.497 billion).
The tender comprises two packages: the power plant package, consisting of gas turbines associated with heat recovery, steam generators and associated works, while the desalination package consists of a multi-stage flash desalination unit and associated works.
Bidders have a choice of submitting bids for either package or both, or form a consortium and bid for both on or before June 24, accompanied with a 5 per cent bond on the value of the bid.
Dewa – which has signed two contracts for the L Station Phase II at Jebel Ali with a consortium of Hyundai Engineering and Fisia Italimpianti, in the immediate future – is fast-tracking its developments due to strong demand.
The first contract, worth Dh3.4 billion awarded to Hyundai, was for the construction and commissioning of the second phase of the power production and desalination plant ('L' Station). The contract involves the installation of four gas turbines, four waste heat recovery boilers, one auxiliary boiler, two steam turbines, and four seawater desalination units. This phase, which will produce1,333 MW of electricity and 55 million gallons per day of desalinated water. The turbines of the first phase are entering the final stage of arrangement for commissioning in the forthcoming months.
The second Dh226 million contract, which was awarded to Fisia Italimpianti, is for the supply of power cables of different sizes and with a total length of 1,413 km, from one of the national companies.
