The extension of the Dubai Creek is progressing rapidly with around 3.2 km of work having been completed at the landmark Business Bay project, according to Dubai Properties (DP), the developer of the project.

Groundwork on Business Bay –  an upscale commercial cluster that offers waterfront high-rise towers, both commercial and residential –  is proceeding on schedule and developers have begun taking possession of their plots.
Deyaar –  one of the UAE's largest diversified real estate companies, which has two plots in the development –  is one of the first developers to start construction on its first plot, which will house the Citadel, its premium commercial tower.
Road works on Doha Road and Oud Metha Road have also started in line with the master plan of the 64 million sq ft development, says a spokesman for DP.
The Business Bay Creek extension project was recently awarded the "Five-Star Award for Safety," the highest category of the award designed by Dutco Balfour Beatty Group, he adds.
“The award was presented to DP following an internal audit conducted by the Group’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Department. The award rates construction sites on a range of 0 to 5, depending on their safety and environmental performance,” he explains.
The Business Bay is the master development located between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. A ‘city within a city’, it is being developed along the lines of Manhattan of New York or the Ginza of Tokyo, to provide an ideal commercial environment to world-class companies, investors and businesses.
The first phase of the project includes the extension of the historic Dubai Creek, along which the infrastructure is being developed.
Meanwhile, Deyaar has recently appointed the locally-based companies Al Shafar General Contracting and Thermo as the main contractor and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contractor, respectively, for The Citadel.
Located strategically between interchanges 1 and 2 on Sheikh Zayed Road, The Citadel is expected to host some of the most prestigious names in the corporate world.
Al Shafar Contracting beat six other competitors to bag the deal, following a thorough scrutiny of its tender bid, says the spokesman. The project is scheduled for completion within 23 months.
Thermo will provide the entire gamut of MEP services for The Citadel including air-conditioning, building automation, controls, heating and hot water, services, ventilation and air treatment, power distribution systems, lighting, fire detection and alarms, power and control systems, communication systems, cold water, drainage and sewage treatment.
The tower will offer spacious conference rooms, a plush business lounge, a well-appointed business centre with state-of-the-art facilities and convention halls with a total area of 3,970 sq ft. It also offers a host of ultra-modern facilities such as a 24-hour manned security system, intelligent light control systems (motion sensors) for public areas, emergency lighting system, voice and data systems, and an exclusive shopping arcade with a luxury coffee shop among others.
Meanwhile, another developer Tulip Business Developers has launched the Peninsula project, a freehold office tower at the  Business Bay.
Tulip has appointed UAE-based Adnan Saffarini as the design and architecture consultant for the Peninsula that will be constructed on an area of 580,000 sq ft.
The Dh450 million  ($122 million) project is expected to be completed by late 2008.
Peninsula will be a 20-storey freehold office building that will have advanced communications systems, well-designed spaces, and views of the waterways and canals from every office. It will also have 22,000 sq ft of retail space, ideal for coffee shops and restaurants at the waterfront.
Other features of the Peninsula include a fully-equipped business centre, a health club, swimming pool and sauna, an aerobics centre, and a virtual golf course –  the only one of its kind in Dubai.
