
Sorouh launches $2.7bn complex
Abu Dhabi: Property firm Sorouh is developing a Dh10 billion ($2.72 billion) complex featuring an 83-storey residential and commercial tower in Abu Dhabi.
Sorouh’s project, called ‘The Gate’, centres on what the company said will be the highest tower in Abu Dhabi and the 15th tallest residential and commercial tower in the world. The complex forms the land entrance to Al Reem Island.
Egyptian firm wins Adwea deal
Cairo: Egyptian Contracting Company has won a Dh759 million ($206.6 million) deal to build a pipeline and water storage facilities for the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea), according to Egyptian Investment Minister Mahmoud Mohieldin.
Mohieldin said Egypt's Investment Authority and Dubai Holding Company will soon sign a memorandum of understanding to facilitate cooperation between the two bodies.
Idea mulls Middle East base
Abu Dhabi: The Middle East will quickly surpass North America in the adoption of district cooling technology, according to the head of the sector's leading industry body.
The forecast came from Rob Thornton, the president of the US-based International District Energy Association (Idea), which works to advance global environmental quality through efficient district energy, during his official visit to the UAE.
Thornton said the Middle East had limitless opportunities to adopt district cooling because of the succession of greenfield master-planned developments emanating from the region.
The Idea president also disclosed that moves are afoot to establish a regional chapter of his organisation to further promote the district cooling concept.
“The chapter would be based in the UAE and we are also planning to organise a district cooling conference here in December this year,” he said.
Amana to build warehouses
Dubai: Mobis Parts Middle East (MPME) has selected Amana Contracting and Steel Buildings, a leader in fast track, turnkey construction, to design and build the warehouse extension to its existing facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai.
MPME has budgeted more than Dh12 million ($3.3 million) to expand its warehouse facility (RDC) at Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza). MPME caters to 40 countries in the Middle East and Africa region that includes 56 Hyundai and 37 Kia distributors.
The expansion will add an additional 15,000 sq m to the already existing built-up area of 30,000 sq m at the existing site. The new structure is expected to be completed in 180 days.
$40m Le Solarium to go ahead
Dubai: Credo Investments has awarded the main construction of its Dh150 million ($40.8 million) project Le Solarium to Sun Engineering and Contracting Company.
Le Solarium, the first commercial building to be launched at Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), is expected to be ready by the last quarter of next year and involves the construction of a 15-storey building on a 71,000 sq ft plot.
Designed by the National Engineering Bureau, the Le Solarium complex will comprise a shopping centre, multi-cuisine terrace food court, a modern business centre for conferences, a swimming pool as well as fully-equipped health club.
Ducab signs largest Dewa deal
Dubai: Ducab, a leading manufacturer of high-quality power cables in the Middle East, has recently entered into a record contract with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) for the supply of power cables.
The Dh226 million ($61.53 million) contract for the supply of medium and low voltage cables, constitutes the single largest order from Dewa to Ducab.
These cables will meet part of Dewa’s plan for the rapid expansion of the 11 kV distribution cable network. Under the contract, Ducab will supply Dewa with 33 kV and 11 kV medium-voltage (MV) copper cables, in addition to low-voltage (LV) cables. The project will be implemented within 14 months.
“Dewa had issued a tender for the cable supply contract in October last year. Following a comprehensive evaluation of the submissions, Dewa decided to award the contract to Ducab, on account of the superior quality of its products and excellent service,” said a Ducab spokesman.
Ducab has an excellent track record with Dewa over the past many years and has already supplied MV cables for Dewa’s 850 MW “L” Power Station in Jebel Ali last year.
Designer chosen for Vision Tower
Dubai: Dubai Properties, a division of Dubai Holding, has awarded Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates (TVS) Architects, a project to design the landmark 51-storey Vision Tower at Business Bay.
The Vision Tower will be located at the main entrance of Business Bay, a development designed as the new central business district of the emirate.
The tower will feature a signature bent-glass facade made with transparent glazing that allows the 'eternally lit' Vision Tower to be a beacon for Business Bay and a landmark for the region.
The tower’s iconic design and key location will afford great visibility to the companies located within the 500,000 sq ft of prime work space.
