Capitalising on a string of successful high-profile projects in the region, Boral Middle East is an international player while at the same time it’s focusing on extracting further business from the Middle East booming construction sector.
Boral Middle East – a joint venture between France’s Lafarge and Australia’s Boral, two world leaders in building materials and in the supply of a comprehensive range of high-quality plasterboard systems for interior partitions and ceilings – has made inroads into the highly competitive market in the Middle East, says Amer bin Ahmed, Middle East sales and marketing manager.
The company opened its Dubai operations just a little over seven years ago with its Middle East headquarters in Dubai, and operating offices and warehouses in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
Boral is serving its clients by meeting the technical requirements, offering them professional and technically-sound assistance, right from the selection of systems and material up to providing the finishing touches on their projects.
“The Dubai office has already proven its expertise in offering special systems. The top of the line products are well received in the market” says Ahmed.
A classic example is the Al Ghurair City, where Boral has installed its time and cost saving solution in a span of under six weeks. The company deals with some leading products that include:
Fire rated cavity shaft wall system
In general, installed between structural floors and designed to allow erection from outside the cavity shaft alone. used for elevator shafts resisting high pressure, all shafts and liner walls requiring high resistance to fire in order to protect the building volume as well as the structure, offering excellent acoustic comfort. The system has been installed at the Petronas Towers (Malaysia) and is being installed at Burjuman Apartments and Office Towers (UAE).
D-Stud cinema wall system
The D-Stud Cinema wall is to be considered as two entirely freestanding half partitions installed face to face in order to form a separation wall.
• It shows exceptional impact and sound resistance;
• Good low frequency performance; and
• STC rating in excess of stc 70.
It has been used at the Doha City Centre (Qatar), and the Ibn Batuta Mall (UAE).
High acoustic performance
In general, for all partitions required having outstanding performance in resistance to sound transmission and to fire. Used for studios, hotels, offices and apartments requiring high acoustic comfort it has been applied at the Convention Centre (UAE).
Triple layer concealed ceiling
The MF concealed ceiling system is typically for commercial applications requiring high performance with respect to fire resistance and sound insulation. This system is a perfect complement to boral D-Stud cinema wall system and will greatly contribute to the overall sound insulation performance from cinema to cinema and have been used at the Doha City Centre (Qatar), and the Convention Centre (UAE).
Wet area partitions
Boral Wet Area Plasterboard is a Water Resistant Plasterboard lining developed as a result of extensive research by boral plasterboard. Boral wet area systems are designed to satisfy regulatory requirements for wall linings and floor/wall junctions, in bathrooms, shower recesses, laundries and toilets and have been used at the West Bay Complex (Qatar), Burjuman Apartments and Office Towers (UAE).
Client satisfaction holds a paramount position in corporate strategy and that is the reason why Boral has brought the systems and products which comply with Australian, ASTM and BS standards and are tested by independent international test institutes,” Ahmed explains.
Over the years, the company has accumulated an impressive portfolio and has been a part of prestigious projects in the UAE and across the region ranging from airports to cinemas, to hospitals and commercial centres.
These include the international airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Bahrain and Doha (Qatar); cinemas at Sahara Centre (Sharjah) and Abu Dhabi Mall (Abu Dhabi); and hotels such as the Madinat Jumeirah, Novotel Hotel, Royal Mirage, Ibis Hotel (Dubai), Emirates Palace (Abu Dhabi), the InterContinental and Ritz Carlton (Qatar).
