Kerzner International Limited of the US has awarded Al Naboodah Laing O'Rourke the Dh2.2 billion ($600 million) contract to build a massive hotel that will form part of the Atlantis project in Dubai.

The $1.1 billion Atlantis project will also include the largest water park in the Middle East.
The Al Naboodah contract will be made up of two main hotel buildings of 23 and 18 storeys, together offering 2,000 rooms.
Enabling works for the project have already started, including the reclamation of a 20 m beach extension. Piling works have also been awarded to M Tech, with work expected to commence by September.
Australian contractor Leighton had signed a pre-construction agreement with hospitality group Kerzner International to develop the water park element of the project in joint venture with Emtech.
The park will be able to accommodate 6,000 visitors daily. It is expected to feature unique water attractions, including one of the world's largest marine habitats, a snorkel trail, a swim with the dolphins encounter programme, an array of water slides and The Dig, an Atlantis-themed “archaeological” experience; and other marine-based attractions.
The crescent of the Palm Jumeirah has been specially widened in order to acconunodate the project. Around 25 acres of land have also been reserved for the future development of the Atlantis resort.
