Saudi-based Binladin Group has won the contract to implement the Dh227 million ($61.8 million) Sharjah International Airport expansion and redevelopment project.
Work on the project will start next month for completion in 18 months, said a report.
The total space and other facilities will expand almost four-fold following the project, a Department of Civil Aviation official said.
The expanded facilities will be able to handle eight million passengers annually, said Dr Ganem Al Hajiri, director-general of Sharjah International Airport and the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
International consultancy GHD is the designer, consultant and project group manager for the project. The Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) will participate in the project as financier.
