Ieading quarrying specialist Stevin Rock has seen its production triple over the past 18 months to meet the soaring market demand, particularly from Dubai.
The company, which supplies high-quality aggregate and rock for Unimix’s operations, has established a record for exacting standards for product quality, environmental awareness, health and safety, since its inception nearly 30 years ago, says a spokesman for the Ras Al Khaimah-based firm.
Capable of producing aggregates for concrete and roadstone (asphalt applications), as well as rock armour for coastal protection works to customer’s specifications, Stevin Rock has emerged as one of the leading quarries in the UAE, GCC and Middle East market.
Established in 1975, the UAE-owned company has three operational quarries in Ras Al Khaimah, located at Khor Khwair, Al Gail and Kaddrah, and a workforce of 1,500. It produces 16.5 million tonnes of a range of high-quality aggregates and 10 million tonnes of rock products per year from naturally-occurring limestone and gabbro deposits.
Stevin Rock has invested in its own all-weather three-berth harbour, which ensures dependability of rock and aggregate supplies to its customers both in the local market as well as in the GCC and the subcontinent. Approximately 33 per cent of its total production goes to these export markets, where demand remains high and projections are that this will rise even further.
The booming construction market of Dubai has been a key growth factor for the company, which is planning ahead for a further surge in business levels, the spokesman says.
“The increasing demand placed both by the local and export markets calls for further expansion of production capabilities to enable Stevin Rock to meet continuing orders for aggregates and rock products,” he says.
Stevin Rock, which is under European management, maintains a reputation for quality, environmental concern as well as management and customer focus. The company achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification from Lloyds in January 2001. Its progressive policies ensure a high level of both equipment maintenance and replacement of worn plants and a dedicated staff is in place to ensure timely repairs. Continuous employee training and assessment allows personal advancement of employees and results in healthy labour retention levels, says the spokesman.
Prestigious projects supplied for Unimix are the Burj Al Arab, Emirates Towers and Jumeirah Beach Residence in Dubai.
Other major contracts currently being supplied by Stevin Rock are Dubai International Airport expansion and Dubai Festival City, Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, Palm Jebel Ali and the World Island project.
