Ttelematics Networking and Communications (TNC), one of the region’s leading ELV (extra low voltage) systems integrators, has successfully completed the task of setting up a uniquely-designed common infrastructure for ELV systems at the Madinat Jumeirah Resort.
The infrastructure designed and managed by the company comprises BMS (building management systems), CCTV (closed circuit television), access control, HSIA (high-speed internet access), SMATV (satellite master-antenna television), PABX (private automatic branch exchange), A/V (audio visual), smoke detection and evacuation systems.
“What sets this entire project apart from the rest is the fact that the ELV systems are integrated and run on one common network infrastructure using an IP (Internet Protocol)-based data network,” says Mike Atkinson, managing director of Telematics.
“Mirage Mille, the developer of Madinat Jumeirah, has focused on providing the highest levels of customer service that its discerning customers have come to expect of it. To achieve this, it demanded that the ELV systems employ the latest in IT that would enable it to deliver superior services whilst being easy to manage and economical to maintain,’’ he explains. ‘‘TNC addressed this need and combined the highest standards of quality and professionalism – for which it has been known throughout the Middle East.’’
The company began by implementing a solid backbone infrastructure based on Systimax products to lay the foundation for a high-speed reliable network that could accommodate advanced and integrated service applications.
The entire Systimax Solutions infrastructure spans 464 km of copper cabling and 31km of fibre cabling, including the GigaSpeed XL copper solution – supporting bandwidth-intensive applications – and the OptiSpeed fibre-optic solution, which is capable of delivering up to 10 gigabits per second at distances of up to 300 m.
Atkinson says: “The introduction of a standards-based Ethernet network has brought about a remarkable change in the way the individual sub-systems connect to the common network communicate with each other. The BMS provided by TNC in partnership with Siemens is also connected to the Ethernet network and it communicates with the CCTV, smoke detection, security, and A/V systems, allowing the client to centrally manage these disparate systems.
“With a common IP infrastructure, Jumeirah International – operators of the Madinat Jumeirah Resort – is able to monitor and manage these systems from anywhere on the network, even across the properties.”
The biggest change in the construction industry is the application of IT in integrating the disparate ELV systems, Atkinson points out. “Apart from offering enormous technical benefits to the client, a well-designed integrated ELV infrastructure is more cost-effective than individual conventional systems. The operational cost is also significantly lower and that is why we believe that this emerging trend will soon become a norm in the construction industry,” he says.
TNC is a leading ICT (information and communication technology) engineering, consultancy and project management company, which has a 17-year track record in providing solutions for design and deployment of network infrastructures throughout the region.
In addition, the Dubai-based company provides an intelligent building management software platform that integrates all the independent technical systems of the building into a common user interface.
This includes air-conditioning, elevators, hot water supply, light management, energy management, access control, fire alarms, intrusion detection, computing and tele-communications.
