Safe role

Installations ... at the Al Murooj Complex.

Cylingas – a pioneer in central liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution systems for residential, commercial and industrial customers – has joined hands with Suregas of South Africa to offer a state-of-the-art PC-based gas (LPG/CO) detection system, which it claims to be far superior to conventional panel-based systems.

The system was introduced for the first time in Dubai at the Madinat Jumeirah Resort and is currently under installation at the Al Murooj Complex.
At Madinat Jumeirah, around 280 gas detectors have been installed at various kitchens in Mina Salam and Al Qasr, the banqueting centre, Palace Beach restaurant, Court Villa restaurant, spa and juice bar and 19 outlets in the suq area.
All the gas detectors are interlinked to a single PC located in Mina Salam’s control centre. Operating through a patented software, the control centre operator is able to monitor the activities of all the gas detectors within the entire complex.
“The system, which can control over 1,000 detectors using a single PC, is now operating successfully, covering a total of around 3.5 km of LPG piping. A conventional panel-based system of this size would require a number of panels to be installed at various locations, which would require a large amount of space and is normally cumbersome to operate,” says a company spokesman.
A similar PC-based gas detection system is also being installed at Al Murooj Complex, which will monitor 630 apartment detectors, over 200 LPG detectors in common areas as well as over 300 carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in parking areas and a number of LPG detectors in the hotel kitchens and floating restaurants. In total, around 12 km of LPG piping is covered by this system.
The new system from Suregas will help in expanding on the company’s existing client portfolio, the spokesman says. “Cylingas’ tie-up with Suregas was aimed at  enhancing the safety of its piping systems and now a team of competent engineers are ensuring that the design and installation meets the requirements of safety, quality and reliability.”
Apart from these two projects, the company is also servicing several prestigious clients such as the Grand Hyatt, Metropolitan hotels, Dusit Dubai and RAK Ceramics.
As a manufacturing and LPG industry pioneer, Cylingas has an impressive 30-year track record in the UAE. Established in 1974, it has grown from strength to strength and is now part of the multi-disciplined Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) Group. Through its cylinder manufacturing facility in Dubai’s Al Quoz industrial area, the company has provided over a million quality LPG cylinders to customers in the region.
At Al Quoz, Cylingas also fabricates world-class quality storage tanks – horizontal and vertical – for above ground, and underground use. The tanks are suitable for the storage of petroleum products, chemicals and water. In addition, the company undertakes fabrication of various sizes of pressure vessels for LPG, propane, air, nitrogen etc.
The company also has the facility of designing tanks in accordance with ASME/API/BS codes which has given it the potential to serve prestigious clients such as the Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai; Dugas; Dubai Aluminum (Dubal); Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and ENOC, among others.
“Rigid quality control and adherence to safety, has been the base of Cylingas’ operations, which has allowed us to export not only within the GCC but also in the African states,” he says.
The company sees immense potential for growth with the development of oil and gas activities in Africa gaining momentum.
“Being strategically placed, we are in a position to capitalise on this opportunity,” says the spokesman. “Besides actively pursuing major projects in Syria and Qatar, the company is participating in various tenders in Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti and is poised to enter these markets shortly.”
Cylingas is an authorised ‘U’ stamp holder from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). It is also a representative of Engineered Controls International (RegO), a world-leading manufacturer of fittings for LPG and cryogenic applications,  and Algas-SDI for its LPG vapourisers. The company, which has entered into an agreement with FMC loading systems of France for the maintenance of its truck and marine loading arms, is planning to start manufacturing this equipment at its own facility.
