Madinat Jumeirah ... a masterpiece.

Amusement Whitewater has built its reputation on solid rock: this theme construction specialist has given the final touches to a number of prestigious projects – its latest being the Madinat Jumeirah where it has crafted the ‘aged’ rockwork and themed areas in the hotel.

In total, Amusement Whitewater created more than 60,000 sq m of rock sculpture around the main Madinat Jumeirah site, creating the visual appearance of an ancient desert palace.
That’s not all: the company has managed to do twice the amount of work originally proposed within the period, thus ensuring that the project stayed on schedule for its launch.
“The completion of the Madinat project is another fantastic milestone in the history of Amusement Whitewater,” comments John Cussen, general manager. “Our ability to deliver the highest quality work to customers on time and within predefined budgets is critical to major projects of this scale. The entire project was well organised and there was excellent cooperation between the consultants, main contractors and Whitewater Amusement.”
The theming work was carried out by 160 highly experienced rock carvers, under the guidance of South African rock artist, Anthony Cloete, who is regarded as one of the top rock and plaster carvers. Each of the 300,000 rocks used in the construction was individually crafted by hand, in different shapes and 12 different carving styles.
“We have given great attention to detail in the work we have carried out on the Madinat site and have taken the creative theming to new levels, and this has not gone unnoticed,” says Cussen. “During a site inspection after the initial opening, a visiting tourist asked us when the old buildings dated back to. For us, that is the ultimate compliment on our work and culmination of many months of innovative design and careful project management.”
With over 20 years experience in the art of themed construction, creating innovative water environments, manufacturing and project management, Amusement Whitewater brings its customers’ ideas to reality. From full-scale water parks and animal environments, to African chalets and rock-form swimming pools, the company’s team of creative designers and engineers can produce almost any look, he says.
From the initial concept stages, Amusement Whitewater has the necessary infrastructure to provide a turnkey solution for recreating every kind of environment, from an Italian Castle to a traditional Arabic fort.
“Using the latest techniques, the company’s innovative theming department can recreate almost any required scenario,” he points out. “Using moulds taken from some of South Africa’s most beautiful rock surfaces, the company’s highly skilled team of experienced rock artists can create natural-looking rockwork that is hard to distinguish from the real thing. This can be used in a wide variety of creative applications including animal habitats, waterfalls, aquariums and gardens, giving a natural feel to almost any area.”
With satisfied customers across the Middle East and Asia, the Dubai office has gained a reputation of being the total solution provider for the regional leisure industry and private clients.
