Global infrastructure company Halcrow has appointed Gensler Architecture, Design & Planning Worldwide as master plan architects to design the new headquarters campus of Qatar Petroleum (QP) in Doha, Qatar.

Commenting on the appointment, Stephen Andrews, vice president of Gensler said: “This project is a great win for Gensler. Covering so many disciplines, it cements our growth in the Middle East and presents us with the opportunity to work in a country which is growing very quickly.”
The project involves the relocation and redevelopment of QP’s current industrial operations on this waterfront site to accommodate 3,000 staff from several offices around Doha. The new facility will include a landmark main office of some 50,000 sq ft, training facilities for professional and industrial staff, a marina, mosque, medical centre, fire station, recreation buildings and a sports stadium as well as the refurbishment of other buildings, including a computer centre.
Work on the 45-month design and construction period has already been started by Gensler to establish QP’s vision for a development, which it hopes will reflect the culture and the scale of the organisation that currently manages the largest known natural gas fields in the world.
State-owned QP is responsible for all phases of the oil and gas industry in the country. QP’s main activities, conducted from various onshore and offshore locations, cover all oil and gas industry processes including exploration, drilling and production, and sale of crude oil, NGL (natural gas liquids), LNG (liquified natural gas), refused products, petrochemicals and fertilisers, in addition to helicopter and financing services.
