Bahrain’s Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has signed multiple contracts to provide information technology systems and non-medical furniture for the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City, a Saudi-funded healthcare and academic project valued at about $267 million coming up in the south of the country.

The medical city is being developed through a SAR1 billion ($262 million) grant from Saudi Arabia, provided via the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD). 

Located near Durrat Al Bahrain, the project is designed to support healthcare services, medical education, scientific research and clinical operations. The IT infrastructure and furnishings are intended to improve the medical city’s operational efficiency and support its long-term development, stated the university. 

The SFD said the project forms part of its efforts to support the health and education sectors through investments in infrastructure and institutional capacity. 

The partnership with AGU spans multiple phases of the medical city project, which aims to strengthen education, research and innovation in Bahrain, said senior officials at the signing ceremony held in the presence of Saudi Fund for Development CEO Sultan Al Murshed and Education Minister Dr Mohammed Mubarak Juma.
