Work is progressing rapidly on the AED3.13 billion ($852 million) Al Dhaher Housing Project in Al Ain, a major national initiative under the Emirati Housing Programme being executed by LEAD Real Estate Developer alongside the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA) and the Abu Dhabi Projects & Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC).
Designed to blend modern living with local architectural heritage for UAE nationals, the 528-hectare master-planned community has also reached a key organisational milestone with the appointment of Aecom as lead consultant for infrastructure design peer review and construction supervision on Phase One. Set for completion in Q4 2028, this initial phase encompasses 1,000 four- to six-bedroom villas, extensive utility networks, and public realm works, laying the groundwork for an eventual 2,394-villa integrated development complete with schools, parks, commercial outlets, and community amenities.
Located about 15 km south of Al Ain City Centre and close to the UAE-Oman border, the development is designed to provide a high-quality, sustainable and culturally rooted community for UAE nationals while supporting the continued growth of Al Ain, said a statement from Aecom.
Covering the first phase, Aecom’s role will involve the design peer review and construction supervision of key infrastructure and associated works across the development.
On the contract win, Adeeb Sami, Vice President – Al Ain at Aecom, said: “Al Dhaher is an ambitious development that brings together residential, community and infrastructure elements at significant scale. From roads and utilities to drainage, flood mitigation, public realm and community facilities, the infrastructure will provide the foundation for the development’s long-term performance.”
The Al Dhaher Development will be developed in three phases and represents another contribution to the continued development of Al Ain as a sustainable, connected and high-quality place to live, while supporting the UAE’s broader vision for vibrant communities and high-quality housing for families.
“Providing appropriate housing for citizens in Al Ain Region remains a strategic priority within the region’s broader journey of comprehensive and sustainable social development,” said Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, after reviewing the progress of the Al Dhaher Housing Project.
Sheikh Hazza said the architectural identity of the project is rooted in Al Ain’s rich cultural heritage and prominent landmarks, such as Jebel Hafeet, Al Ain Oasis, Mezyad Fort and Falaj Mezyad.
