UAE Minister of Public Works and Housing Rakad bin Salem bin Hamad bin Rakad has signed a number of contracts for maintenance, upgrading and expansion of roads and bridges, including Al Dhaid-Madam Road, Fili Link Road and Masfout Link Road worth a total of Dh24.4 million ($6.6 million).


$17 million deal for consultancy

Ras Al Khaimah:

A Dh63 million ($17.1 million) contract was signed for the provision of engineering consultancy services for the construction of a border and coastguard directorate's technical workshop in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.


Tenders issued for housing units

Abu Dhabi:

The Public Works Department (PWD) Abu Dhabi has issued tenders for the construction, completion and maintenance of 600 housing units in Al Rehab. It has also issued tenders for the construction and maintenance of two schools.


Contract for gas network soon

Sharjah:

The UAE emirate of Sharjah is expected to award a contract soon for the second stage of its gas network. An Indian firm is reported to have submitted the lowest bid of around Dh100 million ($25.27 million).


Turkey delays decision on N-plant

Ankara:

The Turkish government has said that a decision on a tender for the country's first nuclear power plant, to be built on the southern Mediterranean coast, would be made soon. A decision was expected to have been made at the end of last year.


UAE power grid link by year-end

Abu Dhabi:

The final phase of a UAE grid to link all power generating plants in the country is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2000, reported Gulf News.


Auto fax service to help consultants

Dubai:

The Building Licensing Section at Dubai Municipality has launched a new auto-fax service to enable engineering consultants offices to get up-to-date information on the progress of their applications, said Khalid Mohammed Saleh, head of the section.

Saleh said the move is in line with the municipality's policy to use the latest technology and incorporate information technology in various fields.


Contest for institute design

Muscat:

The Projects and Service Department of Oman's Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs has launched a competition for the design and supervision of the Institute of Shariah Sciences. The administration building is earmarked for a plot in Al Khuwair.
