A major conference aimed at building officials and administrators will be held in Dubai, UAE, next month.
The Fifth World Congress and Exhibition of the World Organisation for Building Officials (WOBO) will take place from March 26 to 29 at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry premises.
This four-day event titled "Building Towards the Third Millennium", will be a forum for the exchange of information on a number of critical issues within the building industry, said Ahmed Saif Belhasa, president of WOBO and chairman of the UAE Contractors' Association.
WOBO is a membership organisation headquartered in the US. WOBO enjoys category 11 Consultative Status within the United Nations Economic and Social Council (Unesco) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido).
WOBO was formed to act as a medium to transfer information from nation to nation and to promote the concept of international standards and building codes for construction, materials, equipment and appliances.
"WOBO is dedicated to improving the quality of life and resource optimisation through the development, exchange and application of knowledge and experience affecting the health, safety, welfare and usefulness of the built environment," says Belhasa.
Every four years WOBO organises a congress for all its members and governors.
"We are proud to be hosting this prestigious congress which has now gained international recognition as the world's leading event in providing a communication link between building officials of all disciplines for the discussion of issues and concerns within the building industry," says Belhasa.
The congress programme consists of a series of technical papers presented by WOBO international speaker faculty, general group discussions and specific construction project presentations and site visits.
