Egypt's AIC, formerly Arabian International Construction, said its civil portion of a $60 million project in Port Said would be completed by December 2000.

The project focuses on the construction of a 1,200-m jetty, a joint venture project with Italian firm Rodio. AIC responsibility amounts to $37 million.

AIC said it was also busy completing a $16 million project in Sidi Kreir, near Alexandria. It was commissioned by InterGen to construct a new 650-MW gas-powered electrical plant in Sidi Kreir.

"Infrastructure projects such as BOOT (build-own-operate-transfer) and BOT (build-operate-transfer) projects now represent over 60 per cent of our current backlog, which is more than $581.4 million," the firm said.
